Police have secured a court order compelling The Monitor Publications to hand over a copy of the letter authored by General David Sejusa to the Director General of Internal Security Organisation â€“ ISO. On May 7, Daily Monitor published a story based on an April 29 letter allegedly written by General Sejusa, commonly known as Tinyefuza, in which the decorated army officer asks ISO to investigate allegations that some government and military officers are targeted for elimination for opposing the so-called â€œMuhoozi Project.â€
Three prison warders attached to Kalisizo Government Prison in Rakai district have been remanded for allegedly assaulting journalists. The officers, Robert Ssemata, Frank Kyomwiru and Alex Mukasa, allegedly assaulted two journalists on March 18 this year.
A top UNAIDS official in Uganda has said the country is losing the fight against HIV/Aids, with the infection rates steadily rising. Musa Bungudu, the UNAIDS Country, says Uganda is the only country in the Eastern and Southern Africa with rising HIV/AIDS infection rates. Up to 145,000 new infections are recorded each year.
