Judiciary Puts on Brave Face As ULS Lawyers Shun Opening chief justice 1 Top story

Acting Chief Justice Steven Kavuma has today down-played the none appearance of private lawyers under their umbrella association Uganda Law Society (ULS) at the opening of the Judiciary\'s New Law year for 2015. Justice Kavuma said as long as the head of the Bar who is the attorney General Peter Nyombi was present at the function, it was inconsequential for other lawyers to attend.

At least 9percent of Ugandans consume beer, according to the World Health Organisation report of June 2014. The most popular beer brands in Uganda are Senator, Eagle Larger, Bell Larger and Club Beer. These are produced by the two multinationals, Uganda Breweries/East African Breweries (EABL) and Nile Breweries, subsidiaries of Diageo and SABMiller respectively. Senator and Eagle Larger produced by EABL and NBL respectively account at least 50percent in sales volumes. For instance, Nile Breweries, sales of the Eagle Brand are now at an estimated 192 million bottles per annum.

Ruth Sebatindira, the president of Uganda Law Society (ULS) last evening disowned short text messages that were being sent by unkown people to lawyers calling upon them to attend today\'s judiciary function of opening the new law year.This she says is contrary to her earlier communication where she was encouraging them to rally behind her in solidarity to shun the function as protest against President Museveni\'s continued refusal to name a substantive chief justice and deputy.
