The 1 billion Shillings project provides ten 10 new boreholes for community health facilities, ten rainwater harvesting tanks and ten school sanitation facilities in Merikit Sub County, Tororo district, one of the areas in dire need of water and sanitation services. The area is characterized by poverty, poor health and poor hygiene.
Initial reports indicated that unknown thugs disarmed the guard and later held the Depot Manager at gunpoint. Within a few minutes, the two were bundled into a waiting vehicle to an unknown destination. The thugs reportedly robbed 15 million Shillings from the depot.
The staff leaders said that both the students and staff of Makerere University deserve better treatment, fair hearing and constructive engagement. This is contained in a statement addressed to the chairperson of council Lorna Magara, from the three staff associations.
The calls comes just days after armed military officers stormed Lumumba Hall, one of the largest male students’ residences in Makerere University and, according to media reports, broke into 60 rooms, smashed students’ properties and forced them to seek refuge outside the university.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says that the gun was recovered during night operations conducted in Maya, Wakiso District. The gun, an AK47, had three rounds of ammunition.

Ajaru Chobidongo, a survivor of the attack told Uganda Radio Network that the suspected militiamen dressed in camouflage uniform attacked their boat and held them at gunpoint. They were eventually ordered to surrender their fishing gear.
