10 Die In Masaka Road Accident

At least 10 people are feared dead following an accident along Masaka– Mbarara road in Masaka district.

The accident occurred this morning at Kasijagirwa village near Gaz Pump fuel station along Masaka –Mbarara bypass in Masaka city involving three vehicles.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a speeding bus from Kampala- Mbarara tried to overtake a trailer registration number T433BBY/T877BWZ.

The trailer driver lost control of the truck and rammed into an oncoming commuter taxi registration number UBE 995C destined for Kampala from Matete-Ssembabule killing 10 people on spot.  

John Kagwa, one of the eyewitnesses, says that the bus driver was speeding to Mbarara from Kampala.

Muhamad Nsubuga, the Southern Region Police spokesperson, says police is still on the ground gathering details of the dead and injured.

He says that police is also trying to tow the wreckage of both vehicles from the accident scene to establish the exact number of causalities.
