Aswa River Region police has launched a manhunt for a sniffer dog that vanished when a vehicle belonging to the Police Canine Department registration number UP 2536 overturned during an operation.

The vehicle reportedly overturned around 4:00am this morning at Awer village along Gulu–Nimule highway in Amuru district.

Four police officers aboard the vehicle with the sniffer dog sustained injuries and were rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor for medical treatment.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesman, says the officers have since been discharged from the hospital.

He however, says the police sniffer is nowhere to be seen, adding that they have matching orders to find the sniffer.

He appealed to the public to help police to find the missing sniffer and take it to the nearest police station. Sniffer dogs are highly drugs, which track suspects using their scent.

The dogs are also used sometimes to maintain law and order and search for narcotics.
