The Rt. Rev. Patrick Gidudu, the Anglican Bishop of Mbale Diocese has announvdd his plans to lead a demonstration over the unfulfilled presidential pledge to relocate Mbale Garage from Church land.

Bishop Gidudu was addressing hundreds of Christians at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Mbale Municipality on Easter Sunday.

He urged Abraham Betongyeza , the Elgon Region Police Commander, Isaac Lulaba, the Sironko Resident District Commissioner and his Namisindwa counterpart, Moses Kigai Womoto to  reach the president and remind him about his unfulfilled pledge.

Bishop Gidudu noted during his consecration as the seventh Bishop of Mbale Diocese at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in August 2008, President Museveni who was the chief guest promised to relocate Mbale Garage from the church land.

He said the president directed the former Presidency Minister, Beatrice Wabudeya to help the church secure the land.

He said to date, nothing has been done, adding that they have made several pleas in vain.

//Cue in: I am going ...

Cue out: … we have talked.’’ //   Bishop Gidudu pointed out that the idea of the demonstration came up because they have talked and talked for decades but their voices have not been heard.

//Cue in: “Years and years ...

Cue out: … to relocate them.’’ //

There are over 300 mechanics operating on the church land, which is located  between Majanga and Pallisa  road in Industrial division, Mbale Municipality.

Christians applauded the Bishop' s threat to lead a demonstration over the president's failure to relocate mechanics from the church land.

Sarah Kitui, one of the Christians expressed disappointment over the president's failure to fulfil his promise.

She stated that church leaders and Christians are stuck, saying they have failed to expand the church because of the mechanics who are operating illegally on church land.

Abraham Betongyeza , Elgon Regional Police Commander, didn't comment on the Bishop’s speech. He only wished Christians happy Easter Celebrations.
