His Eminence Cardinal Kevin Farrell confirmed the pontiff’s death, saying:“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow, I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis.”
The Vatican says Pope Francis died peacefully at 7:35 am local time, marking the end of a historic papacy that touched millions across the globe.“The Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father,” Cardinal Farrell said. “His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His Church.”
