The Selection Committee has picked two potential candidates
to replace Reverend Eridard Nsubuga Kironde, the current Bishop of Luwero
Anglican Diocese. Bishop Nsubuga is set to retire in July this year after
clocking the mandatory 65 years.
The Diocese has set Sunday 6th July 2023 for the enthronement of the new Bishop. Last year, the Bishop's selection committee led by city lawyer Apollo Makubuya, the Chancellor
of Luwero Diocese was tasked to search for a replacement and nominate two
names from, which the House of Bishops will choose a successor.
The Select Committee comprises representatives from the Fathers
and Mothers' Unions, Youths, Priests, and Canons among others. The selection committee received nominations of eight candidates to replace Nsubuga and since then they have been scrutinizing them. On Wednesday, the committee chaired by Makubuya sat at Hot
Springs Villas, Kigo in Wakiso district and selected two names to nominate to
the House of Bishops.

Ndejje Archdeaconry in Luwero Diocese for the seat. Kasana also serves as the coordinator for
Development, Planning, and Foreign Affairs in Luwero Diocese.
The House of Bishops is expected to sit and elect the new Bishop on April 1st, 2023 ahead of the consecration and
enthronement of Rev. Canon Godfrey Mbitse as the 3rd Bishop for the Muhabura
diocese scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 2nd, 2023
Bishop Kironde has already bid farewell to the majority
of churches in the Diocese and left the official residence to pave way for its
renovation. Nsubuga
relocated to his personal home in Nalyamagonja village in the Luwero sub-county. The Diocese has also embarked on the renovation of St Mark Cathedral
where the consecration and enthronement of the new bishop are scheduled to take
place.
The synod of Luwero Diocese has also approved Shillings 1.4 billion for the consecration and enthronement of the new Bishop. During his eight-year tenure,
Nsubuga has ordained 156 priests and elevated 28 others. He has also commissioned new seven parishes and one Archdeacon.
Nsubuga also constructed a pension house to raise funds to support retired priests among other projects. Nsubuga was enthroned as the third Bishop of Luwero
Diocese in May 2015 replacing Bishop Evans Kisekka. He has shepherded the Diocese for eight years.
