Kabale district has run out of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Last week, Kabale district received 2535 doses of the Moderna vaccine from the National Medical Stores-NMS for the vaccination of people who had never received a single COVID-19 jab.

The district also received 460 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to cater for those who were waiting for the second COVID-19 jab. However, by Tuesday, all health facilities conducting COVID-19 vaccination across the district had run out of the Moderna vaccine.

Paddy Mwesigye, the Kabale District Health Officer in charge of child maternal health who is also a member of the District COVID-19 task force told URN in an interview 2535 Moderna COVID-19 vaccines doses are over.

He also revealed that they are remaining with only 80 out of the 460 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine delivered. Mwesigye says that the stock out of the Moderna vaccine may force locals to use another vaccine for their second jab, which might comprise their health. Mwesigye attributes the vaccine stockout to increased uptake by residents.

Gideon Tumwesigye, a resident of Bataka village in Kirigime ward, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality wonders why the district task force has failed to make more Sinovac-CoronaVac vaccine doses available.

According to Tumwesigye, he received his first Sinovac-CoronaVac vaccine jab in August this year and was told to return on September 31, 2021, for the second jab.

He, however, says that they were asked to await on grounds that the Sinovac-CoronaVac vaccine was out of stock and unavailable in the district.

The minister also said that the country would buy 1.2 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and 2.6 million other doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China.
