COVID-19; Watoto Children's Choir Under Quarantine

Twelve children and 10 adults of the Watoto Childrens choir have been quarantined in Entebbe after a member of their team tested positive for coronavirus upon return from the United Kingdom.   

The choir raises awareness about the work of Watoto Church globally and also offers leadership training for children.  The team returned to Uganda on March 20, 2020 and have since then been and institutional quarantine at Entebbe.  

But in a statement dated March 27, to the Watoto fraternity, Julius Rwotlonyo, the Associate Team Leader Watoto said that one of the adult chaperones who takes care of the Watoto Children’s Choir that had returned from the United Kingdom (UK) on tour is among the  Ugandans who tested positive for the virus.   

According to Rwotlonyo,the individual who tested positive is currently receiving treatment while the team members are currently in their second week of quarantine. He says that at this moment none of the other members have  displayed any symptoms of the virus.     

“We are monitoring his condition closely. His family has been informed and we’re in constant contact with them." Rwotlonyo says, adding that they are working closely with the Ministry of Health and the assigned health workers to follow all the necessary precautions to curb any  further spread of the virus.         

Rwotlonyo says that Watoto continues to take every precaution to ensure the continued health and safety of all the children and every member of the Watoto family.

Uganda has so far comfirmed 23 cases of COVID-19.
