Jacob Odongo, 49, a doctor from Dodoi Kamacha Sub County in Kumi District, lost his life on the night of February 15, 2025, after a collision with a Kakike bus at Awoja Bridge in Soroti City. 

Dr. Odongo was a specialist in public health working in Kenya and a shareholder and board member of Mt. Elgon Hospital in Mbale and Joint Clinic in Soroti City. 

According to East Kyoga Regional Police Commander Damalie Nachuha, Dr. Odongo was driving a white Toyota Hilux (registration number UAJ 660D) from Mbale toward Soroti when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle upon reaching Awoja Bridge.

His vehicle veered into the path of an oncoming Kakike bus (registration number UAZ 415X) driven by Stanley Ochen, who was traveling from Soroti to Mbale.

Dr. Odongo died at the scene, while his co-driver, Martha Atai, sustained serious injuries. No injuries were reported among the bus passengers.

Justus Habyara, the District Traffic Officer from Soroti Central Police Station, visited the scene. Dr. Odongo’s body was taken to the city mortuary for a postmortem examination. 

The vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded at Soroti Central Police Station for inspection as investigations continue.
