KIS Pledges GX 57 Millions for HIV Testing, ARVs in Buggala Island

Kalangala Infrastructure Services Limited-KIS has pledged to provide Shillings 57 million for HIV testing and provision of Anti-Retroviral drugs (ARVs) to people on Buggala Island in Kalangala District.

The money will be provided in three quarters this financial year, according to a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Kalangala District Forum for People Living with HIV/AIDs Network (KAFOPHAN) and Kalangala Infrastructure Services Limited (KIS).  

The partnership is aimed at reducing the spread of HIV/AIDs in Buggala Island. Margret Namanda, the KAFOPHAN Chairperson, says the partnership is timely because the HIV prevalence rate in Kalangala has increased during COVID-19 lockdown from 28% to 32%. 

The Shillings 57 million grant is expected to avail anti-retroviral drugs for over 1,000 people living with HIV/AIDs on Buggala Island.  Henry Kizito, Coordinator KAFOPHAN says the partnership aims at availing information using different media to the Kalangala Community on the prevention of HIV/AIDs. 

The grant will also benefit other people besides those within KAFOPHAN circles and KIS staff members.
