A rolling stone has killed a man at a stone quarry in Nakasajja zone along Gayaza road in Mukono district.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango identifies the deceased as 24-year-old Charles Bukenya, a resident of Kasenene in Mukono municipality.

Deborah Sanyu, an eyewitness said that Bukenya was crashing rocks in the quarry into smaller pieces for sale on Tuesday evening when the huge boulder rolled down and hit him on the head killing him on the spot.

“We tried to call him to run away from the stone as it was rolling fast but unfortunately he didn’t hear,” Sanyu said.

She said they called police, which worked with residents to retrieve the deceased’s body from the ground. Grace Nyangoma, the Nagalama police division Commander, says this is the second incident when life is lost in this stone quarry.

She says in June last year four women were trapped by soil and died in the same quarry during the rainy season. Nyangoma says residents tried to block police from taking the deceased’s body for autopsy, which resulted into a scuffle.
