There was drama during the Health Committee meeting in parliament this morning when the Chairperson, Michael Bukenya asked all those without masks to exit the room.

The Committee was hosting Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng and a team of officials from Uganda Blood Transfusion Services-UBTS to discuss strategies of improving blood collection during the lockdown.

However, most of the people including journalists, Members of parliament and officials from the Health Ministry and  Uganda Blood Transfusion Services had entered the committee room without masks while others had kept them in their pockets and bags.

This prompted the Committee Chairperson, Bukenya to ask those without masks and those wearing them wrongly to vacate the room.

The Health Minister, Ruth Aceng also reminded the chair that he was also wearing his mask wrongly.

Cue out:…putting on mine”//

Several people stepped out of the room to pick their masks while others picked them from their bags and pockets.

However, even after the chairperson’s directive MPs, journalists and blood bank officials continued wearing their masks wrongly while others kept them on their chins.

Dorothy Kyeyune, the Director UBTS who was seated next to Aceng wore her mask only covering the mouth.

Four other MPs kept their masks on the chin, while the committee chair didn't rectify the way the way he had put on his mask.

This comes barely a week after Health Minister; Aceng came under fire when she appeared on social media meeting Village Health Team members in Aromo Sub County in Lira district without a mask.

Aceng later told journalists that she was teaching residents how to use masks and other standard operating procedures.

She has since been summoned together with two other ministers to appear before parliament for flouting Covid19 standard operating procedures
