There were running battles between police and city traders on Tuesday protesting the continued closure of Arcades and Plazas.

The traders had shown up to open their shops on the invitation of Kampala City Traders’ Association –KACITA.

Several traders opened their shops in arcades and plazas by 7 am, which prompted police to use force including firing bullets and teargas to compel them to close in line with the presidential directives.

Traders particularly around Kisekka Market hurled stones at police officers. They also smashed the windscreen of one of the police patrols with a brick and the officers ducked for cover.
