Christians under the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) observed the Way of the Cross on Good Friday, ahead of Easter celebrations set for Sunday. The ecumenical event, held under the theme "Lord, Save Us from Perishing," brought together hundreds of faithful from the Anglican, Catholic, and Orthodox churches.
Pilgrims walked in solemn procession from their respective churches and converged at the Old Kampala Secondary School Playground for a joint prayer service. Prominent religious leaders in attendance included Archbishop Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda, Bishop Moses Banja of Namirembe Cathedral, Canon Jackson Frederick Baalwa, the Assistant Bishop of the Kampala Archdiocese, Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere of Kampala, Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa of Kiyinda-Mityana, and Metropolitan Jeronymos Muzeeyi of the Orthodox Church.
The event was also graced by the Vice President of Uganda, H.E. Jessica Alupo, who joined the Christian community in commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The Way of the Cross is a key event on the Christian calendar, symbolizing the journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary, and this year’s observance emphasized unity and prayer across denominations.
