Three Boda boda riders were killed last evening in Wakiso and Butambala districts during protests that broke out in response to the arrest of the National Unity Platform-NUP presidential, candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

The dead have been identified as Fred Sentamu Junior and Robert Lukwago, both Boda boda riders in Nansana Municipality.  The duo was reportedly shot by LDUs opposite Hippoz Hotel off Nabweru road.

The third victim has only been identified as Faizal, a resident of Kyabadaaza trading center in Butambala district.  Richard Lujja, the Nansana East II B Village LC I Chairperson, says the two cyclists were not part of the protesters when they were gunned down.

Sentamu’s father, Fred Sentamu Senior, says his son was walking with his colleague when they were shot by Local Defense Unit-LDU personnel.

Cue out: .. wange agudde wano,” //

According to Sentamu, his son went into the Boda boda business when he failed to secure a job after completing his University studies.

Sentamu has no kind words for the security personnel who shot his son dead yet he was far away from the area where the protests were taking place.

Sentamu and Lukwago’s bodies have been taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for postmortem while Faizal’s body is at Gombe hospital, according to Katonga Regional Police Spokesperson, Lydia Tumushabe.

She has appealed to people to stop rioting, which may attract the wrath of security personnel. Currently, there is heavy deployment of LDUs in Nansana municipality to prevent fresh protests.
