Speakers from Local Governments in W. Nile Receiveing the body of Hon. Margaret Baba Diri at St. Charles Lwanga College grounds for a Special Session on Wednesday.
A joint council comprising local governments in West Nile has recommended the construction of a secondary school for the blind and a Technical Institute in Koboko in memory of the late Margaret Baba Diri, the former area Woman MP.
The joint council session, held Wednesday at St. Charles Lwanga College Koboko grounds, was chaired by the Speaker of Koboko District Local Government and attended by various dignitaries from within and outside West Nile.
In his submission to the joint council, Richard Andabati Baker, the Speaker of Koboko District Local Government, described the late Baba Diri as a leader with unwavering courage who stood for all, regardless of their differences. He added that such a leader can only be remembered for generations to come if some permanent developments are established in their name.

Meanwhile, some of the councilors demanded the deliberate establishment of a school in memory of the late Baba Diri in Koboko.

However, speaking on behalf of the Chairpersons in West Nile, Ashraf Mambo, the Chairman of Koboko District Local Government, called for the compilation of all the council resolutions, which he said will be presented to the Chief Mourner, the Vice President, during the burial today.

Baba Diri was visually impaired and joined Parliament in 1996 as a lawmaker for PWDs. Later, in 2005, she became the Woman MP for Koboko District until 2021, making her one of the longest-serving legislators. She has been eulogized as a dedicated and irreplaceable leader.
She went to Kyambogo University and worked at St. Charles Lwanga College Koboko as a teacher, with the National Union of Disabled Persons Uganda, and the Parliament of Uganda.
Margaret Baba Diri, born on June 29, 1954, passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 70, while being transported to Gary Homes Hospital in Maganjo, Kawempe Division, Kampala.
She will be buried at her home in Midia, Koboko Municipal Council, today, with Vice President HE Jesika Alupo serving as the Chief Mourner.
