Archbishop Bakyenga Installed as First Chancellor St. Joseph University

Speaking at the function president Museveni called on the administration of the new University to focus on equipping students with skills that will enable the compete effectively in the job Market as well as having the ability to create their own jobs.

 Archbishop Paul Kamunza Bakyenga of Mbarara Archdiocese has been installed as the first Chancellor for St. Joseph University –Mbarara.  

The Chancellor was installed by President Yoweri Museveni in a function held at the University grounds along Mbarara –Isingiro road.

Museveni called on the administration of the new University to focus on equipping students with skills that will enable them compete effectively in the job Market as well as having the ability to create their own jobs.

He contributed 200 million shillings towards the construction of a science complex at the University.

Bakyega revealed that the university will focus mainly on vocational courses to ensure that they do not produce job seekers.   The Archbishop further revealed that the University will accommodate students irrespective of their religious affiliation despite being founded by the Catholic Church.

The State Minister for Higher Education Chrysostom Minyigo cautioned the University against compromising the quality of training given to students.

The University was licensed by the National Council for Higher Education-NCHE on 27th November 2017 and opened up its first semester on 13th August 2018.
