Leaders in Kasese District have called on residents to remain vigilant and strengthen security around their homes and businesses as they celebrate the Easter festivities. The appeal comes in response to continued unrest in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which has raised security concerns in border communities.

Kasese District Chairperson, Eliphazi Muhindi, emphasized the importance of fostering trust and open communication between residents and security forces to enhance community safety. He urged places of worship and entertainment venues to remain alert and ensure the presence of security personnel during the holiday period.

Luke Mbusa, the Community Liaison Officer at Kasese Central Police Station, advised partygoers and night travelers to carry proper identification and report any suspicious individuals in their neighborhoods.

Recent events underscore the need for heightened alertness. In 2023, suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels attacked Kamwenge District, killing at least ten people.

The group is also believed to have been behind the June 2023 assault on Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese District, which left over 40 people dead, most of them students.

On October 17th, 2023, suspected rebels attacked Queen Elizabeth National Park in Kasese, killing three people — a driver, a tour guide, and two tourists on honeymoon.
