Masaka-Mbarara Road Accident Death Toll Rises to 15

According to Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson Muhamad Nsubuga, the deceased has been identified as Lydia Nakabubi. She is from the same family that lost three members in the accident, which claimed 14 lives on the spot, on Thursday morning.

The death toll from an accident that occurred along the Masaka –Mbarara road yesterday now stands at 15 people after one other victim died last night from Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.

According to Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson Muhamad Nsubuga, the deceased has been identified as Lydia Nakabubi. She is from the same family that lost three members in the accident, which claimed 14 lives on the spot, on Thursday morning. The death leaves one person as the sole survivor of the accident; the driver of the truck that rammed into the taxi, who is now undergoing treatment at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.

Nsubuga says that police identified 12 out of the 15 people that died in the fatal accident and two bodies remain unclaimed at Masaka city mortuary. They include Sarah Mutusa, 23, Katete Francis, 51, Moses Magero, 49, also known as Deo Kwese,  Ngalambe Francis, 36, Bernard Kisawuzi, Abu-Bakr Mwanje, Ritah Natasha, 18, Mayimuna Nakintu, 21, Shadiya Nakalule, 16, Mayimuna Nankya, 70, and Salimu Ssekandi alias Mugira.

The accident occurred during a heavy morning downpour on Thursday morning at Kamirampango village, Kasijagirwa along Mbarara by pass in Masaka city when a speeding trailer had a head-on collision with a commuter taxi heading to Kampala from sembabule.
