Missing Ntungamo Pupil Found Dead

Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 13-year-old Shafat Ayebazibwe, a resident of Kamunyiga II cell, Rutunguru ward-Kagarama town council in Ntungamo district. 

Ayebazibwe disappeared on June 28th, 2019 and was found dead on Monday. 

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, says they initially suspected that the teenager had been lured to go and work when his family reported his disappearance since no one had contacted them for ransom.

He however, says residents who had gone fishing in Kamunyiga swamp stumbled on the deceased’s lifeless body. 

According to Kasasira, residents ganged up on one of the residents identified as Patrick Beinobwengye and lynched him on suspicion that he had a hand in the teenager’s murder.

Kasasira says residents targeted the deceased after information circulated that he had been seen monitoring the area where the teenager’s body was found.   

According to Kasasira, the suspect killed the minor after learning that he had seen him sneaking from a neighbor’s house with some property.  

He says police is investigating the incident as well hunt the ring leaders of the mob. The case is registered under police file number CRB 924/2019 of Ntungamo Police station.   

Ntungamo District Education Officer, Odo Arigye has described the incident as unfortunate and called for thorough investigations. He says that the death of a pupil is a great loss to the district.
