Court has deferred the ruling on the bail application of the eight suspects implicated in the murder of former police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi citing the delay by the National Identification and Registration Authority-NIRA to verify the identity of their sureties.

The suspects are Abdul Rashid Mbaziira, Araman Higenyi, Yusuf Mugerwa, Bruhan Balyejusa, Joshua Kyambadde, Jibril Kalyango, Yusuf Nyanzi and Shafik Kasujja.

The suspects appeared on Thursday afternoon in the International Crimes Division of High Court sitting in Kololo in Kampala for their bail ruling. 

However, the Court Registrar, Sally Lukwago told them that they couldn’t proceed since they are yet to receive a response from NIRA."We are still waiting for NIRA to get back to us with the verification of the sureties," Lukwago told Court which was filled with journalists and relatives of the suspects.

He adjourned the matter to March 19th, 2019. The suspects who were committed to the International Crimes Division of High Court on charges of terrorism and murder presented 24 sureties. Details of the case

The suspects were picked up together with several others in connection to the murder of former police spokesman, Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his bodyguard, Kenneth Erau and driver, Geoffrey Mambewa on March 17, 2017, a few meters from his home in Kulambiro in Nakawa division.

The prosecution alleges that the accused also used a gun or other weapons and robbed Erau of a rifle SMG and a pistol.  

They are also accused of rendering support to Bruhan Balyejusa, Jimmy Ogutu and Noordin alias Taata Abudal-razak to engage in acts of terror.
