The clashes were sparked off by an attempt to block Ninsiimas Rally in the area by a group of people saying that they could not hold a rally of an independent candidate in the home parish of David Bahati, the NRM chairperson for Kabale district.
Seven people were injured in Mwendo parish, Kitumba Sub County during clashes between supporters of Ndorwa West parliamentary candidate David Bahati and Ronah Rita Ninsiima, the parliamentary candidate for Kabale district last evening.
The clashes were sparked off by an attempt to block Ninsiima's Rally in the area by a group of people saying that they could not hold a rally of an independent candidate in the home parish of David Bahati, the NRM chairperson for Kabale district.
The group led by Emmy Arinaitwe, the Kitumba Sub County LCV Councillor was reported to have pelted stones at their opponents. Ninsiima's supporters retaliated, prompting a scuffle that lasted over 30 minutes. Ten people were injured in the process.
Wilberforce Arinaitwe, one of the injured persons, a journalist attached to Rubanda FM says the attackers indiscriminately beat up all persons gathered for the rally claiming that they could not host an independent candidate in the area.
Ninsiima accused Bahati of intimidating her supporters overtime.
//Cue in:I had decided....
Cue out:.....in the parliament:"//
Ninsiima adds that she filed a formal complaint to the police and also request for security to avert any more attacks on her supporters.
//Cue in:am definitely going to
Cue out:...going to take:"//
David Bahati could not be reached for a comment on the matter because he could not take repeated phone calls from URN. However, one of his campaign agents who talked to our reporter on condition of anonymity revealed that the Minister traveled to Kampala shortly after the incident.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate says that the police had learnt of the incident but Ninsiima had not yet made a formal complaint.
