11 Dead, Scores Injured in Kisoro Accident

The accident occurred when a motor vehicle, ISUZU ELF registration number UAW 739M that was carrying traders, sacks of Irish potatoes, crates of soda and beer, failed to negotiate a sharp corner and hit guard rails in Kanaba hills.

Eleven people have been confirmed dead and several others injured in a motor accident that occurred along the Kabale-Kisoro road this morning.

The accident occurred when a motor vehicle, ISUZU ELF registration number UAW 739M that was carrying traders, sacks of Irish potatoes, crates of soda and beer, failed to negotiate a sharp corner and hit guard rails in Kanaba hills.

Deus Tumuranze, one of the survivors says that the vehicle from Mengo in Muko Sub County, Rubanda district was heading to the daily market in Kisoro Municipality. Tumuranze says that the deceased the chopped by guard rails, while others were hit by their goods.

The dead include the driver only identified as Bikwasi and owner of the vehicle, a businessman from Kaara in Muko Sub County.  The injured have been rushed to Kisoro hospital while the bodies of the deceased were still at the scene of the accident by press time.

John Baptist Twinomugisha, an Ambulance attendant at Kisoro hospital, one of those transporting the injured to nearby health facilities identified one of the injured Brenda Kemigisha from Muyebe in Kabale district and the other as Enock Namara from Rubanda.

Twinomugisha says most of the casualties were in bad condition with broken legs, arms, and deep wounds in the chest stomach and heads.

Kisoro District police Commander Charles Okotto says that police traffic is at the scene managing the situation.
