The free Government Face Masks
130,000 people in Isingiro District have missed receiving the free
face masks from the government.
The district has 29 Sub counties and town councils with a population of 638,797
inclusive of refugees hosted in two settlements. Last month, 470,003 masks were delivered to the district.
However, the masks were not enough with all sub counties and town councils receiving either half
or less than half of the required.

Abel Nayebare, Chairperson Rwenkwazi village said he submitted a list
of 500 people but only 105 received masks, which has caused an uproar in the

Elias Bamutonda, Chairperson Buhunga central Village in Buhunga
Parish said that despite being closer to the Uganda –Tanzanian border, the area
received only 300 instead of 600 masks.

Mathias Kweyunga, Chairperson LCI 48 trading centre, says that the
area was supposed to receive 1,200 face masks to cover the trading centre but
only received 420 leaving a deficit of 780.
Wilbroad Sande, the Rwanjogyera Sub County Chairperson, said that being
a new Sub County they were never considered in the distribution but shared with
those that were given to Endiizi Sub County.
“This sub-county is new it was not considered for the masks and if
it wasn’t for Endiizi Sub County to give some I had missed out”, he said.
