At least 139 candidates at various examinations centers in Soroti district have missed sitting their Primary Leaving Examination. Some of the affected candidates registered at Pioneer, Gweri, Aboket, Amoroto, Awoja, Adacar, Obule, Odudui, Aboket, Arapai, Fr. Hilders, Owalei, Awaliwal and Onyakai primary schools amongst others.
Information obtained by URN shows that Adacar, Ocokican and Amoroto primary schools had the highest number of absentees. At least 21 candidates didn’t turn up in each the schools to write their PLE papers. John Evans Omuut Otim, the head teacher Pioneer Primary school says 104 pupils registered for PLE but three of them didn’t show up.
Otim told URN that he had not received any communication from the candidates explaining why they missed the examinations. Sam Oyaba, the Supervisor Pioneer station says one of the four candidates who failed to show up at Pioneer and Soroti Parents primary School died after registering.

Everest Okello, the Soroti district education officer declined to comment on why the candidates had failed to show up for the exams saying he was too busy. However, the examinations went without any incident in Soroti District. Joab Wabwire, the Soroti district Police commander said his office had not recorded any case in relation to the PLE examination.
