Kenneth Akomekech, the Amolatar grade one magistrate on Tuesday remanded the suspects after they failed to get sureties to guarantee their bail.

Tyan Emmanuel, the Resident State Attorney told court that the suspects were arrested last Tuesday at Bangala Landing Site in Namasale Sub County, where they were found consuming marijuana.

Tyan said the suspects acted in contravention of Sections 47(A) and 167 (D) of the Penal Code, which outlaw being and idle and disorderly and possession of illegal drugs.

Tyan further told court that the practice was responsible for the surging levels of crime on the Landing Site and asked court to find the suspects guilty and pronounce a deterrent sentence to discourage the vice.

Hearing of the case was also hampered by the absence of an interpreter to translate for some of the suspects who hail from Buganda and Teso sub regions.

As a result, court fixed November 1st as the date for hearing the cases.

The suspects mainly teenagers include Otema Bonny,  Mutasa Rose 22, Ejulu Julius, Olago Ambrose, Elweo Martin and Odur Anthony. The others are Opunu Moses, Allele Joel, Otanga Denis,  Tekwo Willy,  Obongi Moses,  Odur Lawrence, Okwany Rashid,  Okello Emmy.
