15 Candidates To Contest In Nakasongola Local Government By elections

Anthony Mwaita Ambrose, the Nakasongola District Returning Officer, says that among those nominated is Fred Lubinga, the National Unity Platform candidate, and National Resistance Movement-NRM party candidate, Gaster Yawe Musisi who are eying the vacant Katuugo town council LC 3 chairperson seat following the death of the former chairperson, George William shortly after swearing-in.
Fifteen candidates have successfully gone through nominations to contest for nine elective seats in the residual and by-elections in Nakasongola district.

Four of those nominated are contesting for LC 3 Chairperson seats whereas the remaining eleven candidates are battling for Special Interest Group positions.

In Kazwama Town Council, Mwaita said that Umar Wasswa, an Independent and Fred Byabagambi, the NRM candidate would be tussling it out for the LC 3 Chairperson seat following the suspension of the previous elections over a mix-up on the voter’s register.

Mwaita says that three candidates seeking to represent Old Persons and Persons with Disabilities in two sub-counties sailed through unopposed due to a lack of competitors. Mwaita has since invited the candidates for a meeting today to agree on a roadmap for their campaigns.

Both Lubinga and Musisi who are contesting for LC 3 Chairperson seat for Katuugo town called for peaceful campaigns shortly after their nominations. They also promised to run campaigns based on their party manifestos and address issues affecting the new town council.

Electoral Commission has set December 16th and 17th for the residual and by-elections. The campaigns will run for thirteen days from December 2nd to 14th 2021.
