15–Year–Old Girl Dies After Jumping Out Of Speeding Car in Moroto

Police in Moroto district are investigating circumstances under which a 15-year-old girl jumped out of a speeding vehicle and died instantly.

The incident occurred on Thursday along the Moroto-Soroti road in Naitakwae, Moroto District.

A Nissan pickup, registration number UAS 679X, was travelling from Moroto town to Nadunget when one of the passengers, 15-year-old Lomongin Angelina, jumped out of the vehicle and fell on the tarmac hitting her head. 

Mike Longole, the mt Moroto regional police spokesperson confirmed the incident stating that the driver of the vehicle, Kipanda Yassin, a 37-year-old mechanic and resident of Tapac Sub County, has been arrested to help the Police in further investigations

Longole said that they have started the investigations to determine the circumstances under which the accident occurred.

‘’We urge all drivers to exercise caution and ensure the safety of their passengers. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased. The body of the deceased has been taken to Moroto Referral Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem’’ Longole said.

Meanwhile, the joint security and intelligence-led operation conducted by the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Uganda Police Force (UPF) has led to the recovery of an illegal firearm in Moroto District.

On Tuesday, security personnel raided a residence in Musupo Village, Musupo Parish, Katikekile Sub-County, and recovered one AK47 rifle, registration number 19741411, with 37 rounds of ammunition.

Mike Longole, the mt Moroto regional police spokesperson said that the joint security and intelligence-led operation is part of ongoing efforts to disarm and demobilize armed groups in the region.

Longole added that they are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the local population and their properties.

‘’We commend the joint security team for their bravery and professionalism in recovering this illegal firearm.  We urge the public to continue cooperating with security agencies to prevent the proliferation of illegal firearms and to promote peace and stability in the region’’ Longole said.
