16 SACCOs in Kitgum Get Additional UGX 20m Seed Capital

According to Alex Opira, the Kitgum District Principal Commercial Officer, the 16 SACCOs have met the required standards and have been given the green light to access the additional funding.

Sixteen Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) in Kitgum District have been cleared by auditors to receive an additional 20 million each in seed capital under the Emyooga program.   

According to Alex Opira, the Kitgum District Principal Commercial Officer, the SACCOs that have met the required standards include Chua East Tailors' SACCO, Chua West Persons With Disabilities SACCO, Chua West Journalists SACCO, Chua West Veterans SACCO, Chua West Woman Entrepreneur SACCO, Chua West Market Vendors SACCO, Chua West Youths' Leaders SACCO, Chua West Fisheries SACCO and Chua West Welders SACCO. 

The others are Chua East Taxi Operators SACCO, Chua West Mechanic SACCO, Chua East Journalist SACCO, Chua West Carpenters SACCO, Kitgum Municipal Tailors' SACCO, Chua Elected Leaders SACCO, and Chua West Boda Boda SACCO.   

Opira said that the cleared SACCO groups are required to submit documents such as certificates of registration, bank statements, and other relevant papers for permanent registration of their groups.

According to Opria, once the documentation process is complete, each of the 16 SACCOs will receive an additional 20 million in seed capital, bringing the total amount disbursed to 320 million Shillings in addition to 30 Million Shillings disbursed to them in 2021.   

Opira noted that three SACCO groups have already received the additional seed capital, amounting to 60 million Shillings. The three SACCOs that have benefited from the additional funding include Kitgum Municipality Veterans SACCO, Chua West Youths Leaders SACCO, and Kitgum Municipal Performing Artists SACCO.

He added that Kitgum District has registered a total of 54 SACCO groups under the Emyooga program, with a total of 1.68 billion Shillings disbursed to the groups as revolving funds.   

The Emyooga program is a government initiative aimed at promoting economic development and job creation through the provision of seed capital to SACCOs.

The program is designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and cooperatives in various sectors, including agriculture, trade, and services.
