At least 17 parents have been arrested by the Police in Otuke district for keeping their children out of school.

This is the latest operation being carried in the area on the orders of the district security committee headed by Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Robert Abak, to crack down on parents who often keep their children at home to provide labour.

The operation which, was launched on Wednesday is also meant to improve pupils\' number in government aided primary schools.

Several parents have since gone into hiding to evade the police.

RDC Robert Abak says areas like Otuke town council, and Ogor Sub Counties have the highest number of children out of school.

Abak says the operation stem from increasing dropout rate in the district with a huge numbers of girls leaving school to get married.

Paul Agwa, a teacher at Adyera –Konya Primary School in Adwari Sub County was also arrested during the same operation after he was found drunk during working hours.

The Wednesday operation found 35 school going age children gardening and fishing.

Acting Otuke DPC, Dariuos Awio says the arrested parents shall be charged with negligence.

John Bosco Olwit, the Adwari LC3 Chairman backed the campaign saying it will help reduce the drop our rates.
