200 Homeless Following Violent Land Clashes

Apollo Okwera, the Amuru Sub County LC V councilor, says the clashes in Layima village are between the family of Lakoli from Lamogi Payugu clan and the family of Ooyi from Pawel clan.

At least 215 people in Layima, Rec ki Ceke, Atiti, Lakang and Acwera villages in Amuru Sub County in Amuru district are out in the cold following the destruction of their homes during violent land clashes.    

 

Thirteen people are nursing injuries at Lacor health center III, Oberabic health center II and St Mary`s hospital Lacor following the clashes that occurred between Monday and Wednesday this week.

Apollo Okwera, the Amuru Sub County LC V councilor, says the clashes in Layima village are between the family of Lakoli from Lamogi Payugu clan and the family of Ooyi from Pawel clan. 

He says the clashes sacked in other people from the two clans.

Michael Lakony, the Amuru District LC V Chairperson, says three people are in critical condition while one is under Intensive Care at St Mary`s hospital Lacor. 

He 20 head of cattle, 60 goats and household items were looted in the clashes.     

 

Lakony says 8 suspects were picked in a joint operation by the army and Uganda Police force. He says they have liaised with UPDF to maintain deployment in the area to prevent fresh clashes.

Amuru district has had several land conflicts in, which people have lost lives. At the beginning of June, several houses were destroyed in clashes at Amuru town council.
