The 2013 FUFA-MTN inter region competition enters the semi final stage today at the Boma Ground in Hoima Municipality.

Defending champions Eastern, who are finding this year’s campaign tough, will face tricky side Mid North in one of the semi final ties, while in-form Buganda take on West Nile at 2pm. Buganda is the only team in the competition that has won all their three group games.

Kampala, the Champions of the inaugural competition in 2009, were yesterday eliminated after losing 1-0 to a determined West Nile side. Juma Akuma scored the lone goal for West Nile, while Kampala also had their coach Wasswa Bbosa sent off for trying to attack his West Nile counterpart.

Hosts Kitara, who are backed by Taban Amin, son of former President Iddi Amin, were humiliated by Mid North 3-0. Douglas Ochan netted a hat-trick. Ochan told URN after the game that the chance is now for the trophy to go to Northern Uganda.

North East also managed a 2-1victory over Western region, although the two teams failed to make it to the semi finals. Coach Edward Goloola’s Buganda showed why they are favourites to win this year’s Cup when they defeated defending champions Eastern 2-1 in a tough contest at the Boma Ground.

Faisal Kivumbi and Hakim Mugerwa scored for the Bugunda team, while Martin Odong netted for Eastern. A confident Eastern coach Abbey Kikomeko was said he is already plotting to beat Mid North in the semi final.

The tournament sponsored by MTN Uganda has attracted eight regions and will climax on Saturday with the finals and play-off for third and fourth places.
