Uganda She Cranes this morning registered their second straight win at the on-going 2019 Africa Netball Cup in Cape Town, South Africa.
The She Cranes humbled Lesotho 98-24 in their first game today before they face table leaders South Africa later.
Head Coach Rashid Mubiru made some changes to the squad by combining Mary Nuba with Martha Soigi, placed Jesca Achan in centre position and ensured that Irene Mirembe and Privas Kayeny defended Lesotho scorers Matseliso Toloane and Nthabiseny Phokojoe.
Lesotho's team managed to score 14 goals against Uganda's 48 goals in the first half, but we're outplayed in the foruth quarter which ended with a 74 goal difference in Uganda's favour.
Goal defender Thandokazi Sekoati was challenged by Nuba's towering height while Goal Keeper Malintsa Kyantetsi failed to intercept balls to Soigi from either Achan or Hindu Namutebi. They basically failed to break the Nuba-Soigi magical combination in the shooting circle.
Uganda She Cranes now in second place will now face South Africa at 3pm this afternoon. In the last 11 meetings with South Africa, Uganda has won only one.
Wilberforce Mutete, the spokesman of the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) has lauded the team for their performance so far having defeated Zambia in the opening match.
He however says the team must defeat South Africa if they are to achieve this goal to clinch their third consecutive trophy at the championships.
Mutete explains that since Tanzania did not turn up for the championship, the Africa Netball Federation decided to adopt the Round Robin model whereby all the seven teams will battle against each other and the team with more points and goals wins the title.
Since Uganda has fewer goals than South Africa, despite the 60-0 Zimbabwe walk over win after the team failed to show up for the rescheduled game on Friday, the She Cranes can only defeat South Africa by winning the game, hence more points.
