23 Arrested for Violating Curfew in Kabale

23 people have been arrested in Kabale for allegedly violating the 9:00 pm night curfew.

They were arrested on Tuesday night in Bamboocha bar and Califonia T & J Transit Bar located in Kigongi along, Kabale Mbarara-highway in Central division, Kabale municipality.

Deus Nandiinda, the Resident District Commissioner, says that the raid by security personnel follows district security and Covid-19 taskforce meeting where members raised concern over the operations of the two hangouts despite the presidential directive on the closure of bar as a Covid-19 preventive measure.

Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi region says that among the arrested include Posiano Besigye, a resident of Katuna town council who is also the proprietor of Bambocha bar and Eliot Byenjuna the proprietor of Califonia T & J Transit Bar. 

Maate says that during the night operation, security personnel also impounded 30 motorcycles.

Maate says that the suspects who are currently detained at Kabale Police Station will be arraigned before the court to answer charges accordingly.
