Mbarara municipal council court has sentenced 24 sex workers to five -months imprisonment, after they pleaded guilty to charges of being idle and disorderly.
The grade two magistrate, John Kaayo, said the convicts' five
Month's punishment would act as a deterrent to other girls planning to engage in the sex business.
The sex workers were part of a larger group of people who were arrested by police on Wednesday night, during an operation against suspected idlers and prostitutes in Mbarara town.
The District police commander, Alson Agaba, says that sex workers have become a moral and social threat to Mbarara town.
