It is alleged that Wabomba disappeared from home on May 1, 2019, and thereafter called a number of his relative’s saying that his kidnappers were demanding a ransom of three million Shillings to guarantee his release.
Police in Soroti district is holding
a 24-year- old man for self-kidnap. The suspect identified as Wabomba Ali is a
resident of Market Street in Soroti municipality.
It is alleged that Wabomba
disappeared from home on May 1, 2019, and thereafter called a number of
his relative’s saying that his kidnappers were demanding a ransom of three
million Shillings to guarantee his release.
But he was on Monday, May 6, uncovered
by the Police GPS tracker from Moruapesur ward in Soroti town where he was
hiding while demanding for the money.
East Kyoga Region Police
Spokesperson Michael Odongo says the suspect is now charged for giving false
information to the police in line with section 68 of the Police Act. According to the provision of the law, a person
who knowingly gives false information to the police…, commits an offence and is
liable on conviction to imprisonment not exceeding one year.

Odongo further disclosed that
last year, a similar incident happened when a student of Soroti Secondary
School demanded a ransom of two million Shillings.

The cases come at the height of
kidnaps, some of which have ended into loss of lives, in different parts of the
country.
