25 Injured as Truck Overturns in Seeta Trading Centre

An eyewitness Sulaiman Ssekanwagi says that the truck driver was trying to avoid a collision with a motorcycle from the opposite direction but swerved off the road and overturned.

Up to 25 people have been injured in an accident that happened this evening along Namilyango Road in Seeta Trading Centre.

The injured were travelling aboard an Isuzu Forward truck with an invisible number plate when the vehicle lost control while trying to overtake a coaster along the same road. An eyewitness Sulaiman Ssekanwagi says that the truck driver was trying to avoid a collision with a motorcycle from the opposite direction but swerved off the road and overturned.

He says that the majority of the people on the truck sustained injuries on the head, while others were taken to hospital with broken legs and hands. At first, they were rushed to Mukono General Hospital for management but ten of them were further referred to Mulago Hospital for better management. The Injured are all residents of Namilyango in Goma Division, Mukono Municipality.

Another eye witness Rebecca Nakaweesa says that the vehicle was moving at a high speed, yet still, the people on board were shouting on top of their voices, shortly before the accident.

Ismael Kifude, the Acting Mukono Division Police Commander says they are yet to identify the names of all the people involved in the accident. “So far we have not confirmed any deathal though most of the people have been seriously injured.”
