Police in Mubende has arrested three police officers, who had deserted the police force and went hiding in the village.
Mubende district police commander Enock Abaine, says the three deserters were arrested from Kiyuni traders centre in Kiyuni Sub county, Mubende district, where they have been hiding for the past three months.
He identified the suspects as Kafuko Iddi, Ssebukeera Vincent and Kisembo Medard, all police constables who were attached to the police’s Field Force Unit in Kampala.
Abaine says the arrest of the suspects follows a tip of by the concerned residents of Kiyuni Sub County who had seen the policemen at the village hiding.
He says police had deployed detectives and used different tricks to track the officers since they left the force.
He adds that, the police men, had escaped with police uniforms, and were still earning salaries through their bank accounts.
Abaine explained that, the three had become a threat to the community, as many times they had been spotted in the community, wearing police uniforms at night.
He says the three who are still in police custody will on Thursday be sent to court and charged with desertion.
Some of the residents who spoke to this reporter commended the police for acting in time when they tipped them about the deserters.
Kajubi Moses, a resident of Kiyuni said that, the residents had for long been fearing to alert the police about their colleagues who were threatening them and highly suspected that, they might have been involved in criminal offences like burglary and robberies.
