30 Suspected Criminals Arrested in Lira City

The suspects including 9 females and 25 males were arrested on Tuesday during the intelligence-led operations conducted by police in the areas of Kamshwali, Te-Atat, Te-Dam and Te-Kulo.

Police in Lira City West Division have arrested 34 suspected criminals accused of terrorizing residents within the city.

The suspects including 9 females and 25 males were arrested on Tuesday during the intelligence-led operations conducted by police in the areas of Kamshwali, Te-Atat, Te-Dam and Te-Kulo.

The suspects are alleged to be part of criminal gangs involved in smoking opium, sniffing aviation oil, consuming alcohol and robbing civilians of items such as phones, wallets, handbags and other valuables. They are also suspected of engaging in housebreaking. 

Jimmy Patrick Okema, North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, said arrests stemmed from the Police Community Policing Program conducted across various locations in Lira City West Division.

He encouraged the public to always support police efforts through timely sharing of information to enable quick responses to criminal activities.

Okema said the operation which is aimed at disrupting and dismantling criminal networks in the city, will continue to target other areas within Lango Sub-region to ensure public safety.

Moses Ashan Okeng, deputy speaker of Lira City West Division called for vigilance from the members of the community and encouraged the public to practice neighbourhood watch especially during the festive season to promote security and harmony.
