Four officials working with the  Isingiro district water department have been suspended and subjected to a serious probe by the district council for misappropriating more than 30 million shillings.

The four are;  Tumushabe Innocent the district water officer, his assistant Kahurwa Simon,  Babra Kobusigye, a social worker and Boaz Nuwamanya an engineer in charge of boreholes.

They are accused of embezzling money meant for the construction of boreholes and shallow wells in Birere, Mbaare and Endinzi sub-counties. The money was squandered during the 2010/2011 financial year.

A field verification exercise conducted by the sectoral committee on works,  noted that some construction companies contacted by the district, had been paid the contract sums yet they had unfinished work.

Kizza Joseph, the  works committee chairperson says Isingiro district which is known of its water scarcity cannot accept to accommodate such a loss when many people in the area are suffering from water related diseases.

However the chief administrative officer Alex Kwizera said that the resignation will not exonerate him from the financial loss caused to the district until a probe committee comprised of police and district public accounts committee makes its final findings.

Companies contracted by the district to construct bore holes in the 2010/2011 financial year include KWED, OATS and JOPACO construction companies.
