The Electoral Commission has created more than 4000 new polling stations in preparation for the second multi-party in general elections in 2011.

Joseph Biribonwa, the Commission's Vice Chairperson, says the reorganization of poling stations is a big milestone on the commission's road map to the election.

Biribonwa says the exercise involved re-naming some polling stations, splitting and merging them where necessary. He says this was done to ensure that each polling station had a manageable number of voters taking into consideration the distance the voter takes to places.

The list of new polling stations will by end of week be published in the government gazette.

// Cue In "We have about 23000 ... Cue Out ... the projections of UBOS" //

Biribonwa says each polling station has up about four hundred voters but the number varies especially for densely populated parishes.
