Data from the Oyam District Education Department indicates that of the 5,670 candidates registered for the PLE in 118 examination centers, 24 girls and 17 boys were absent.
At least 41 pupils in Oyam District missed the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) this year. The absenteeism was reported across 23 government-aided primary schools, including Aweloobuturyo P.7, Wigweng, Aleny, Anyeke, Adelmina, Akokokwe, Alidi, Adyegi, Alutkot, Teapena, Meta, Alanyi, Acanpii, Otwal, Lelapala, Amwa, Barmwony, Kamdini, Ogugu, Omiri, and Wiagaba, among others.

Janet Achola, the Senior Inspector of Schools for Oyam District, reported that most absentees had attended school up to the registration period but then disappeared. She attributed the absenteeism to girls being married off and boys engaging in petty businesses.

Robert Ekwaro, LCIII Chairperson of Loro Town Council, pointed to the lack of parental involvement and support as a significant factor behind the absenteeism. On the other hand, Sam Ogwang Alunyu, Kamdini Town Council LCIII Chairman, mentioned that they are collaborating with stakeholders to improve the situation.
