47 Students Test Positive for COVID-19

Forty-seven out of the 280 students evacuated from Kampala to Gulu City on Tuesday morning have tested positive for Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The students were subjected to the rapid COVID-19 test at Gulu University Laboratory on Tuesday afternoon.  



James Onono Ojok, the Gulu University Public Relations Officer told URN on Thursday morning that the students did not present with severe conditions and were placed under home based care. He says that the parents of the students were notified and advised to isolate all the students evacuated from Kampala City to different districts of Acholi between Tuesday and Thursday.   

Stephen Odong Latek, the Gulu Resident District Commissioner, says that the district was incapacitated to conduct tests on the more than 400 students due to the lack of test kits.  Eddie Oujhara, the Chairperson Acholi Students Association has advised parents and students to implement the coronavirus preventive measures and seek medical attention when they feel unwell.

  Kampala is among the hotspots of COVID-19 following a spike in infections. The cumulative confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths in Uganda stand at 55,511 and 392 respectively.
