Five UPDF soldiers attached to the 51st battalion in Kotido have been sent to jail for their involvement in the ambushing a gate way bus along the Kotido- Moroto road in August.

The suspects are jointly charged with four Karamojong warriors.

The 3rd Division military court martial chaired by Lt. JB Mulindwa heard that Lt. Richard Watum, and his accomplices - Private Angufu Muzamil, Private Martin Menya, Private Richard Dencha and Private John Opio, connived with 8 Karamojong warriors and ambushed a bus in August.

The gate way bus was traveling from Kotido to Kampala via Moroto. The warriors shot at the bus killing one woman, injuring nine others and looted goods worth millions of shillings.

Both the warriors and the soldiers have pleaded guilty to the charges and were sent to jail.

Watum has been sentenced to 14 years in jail while his accomplices have been handed down a 12-year prison sentence.

The warriors have each been sentenced to 9-years imprisonment, in Kotido government prison.
