50 Lwengo Health Workers Face Interdiction for Absenteeism

About 58 health workers in Lwengo district are the verge of being dismissed from work for alleged absenteeism from work.
About 58 health workers in Lwengo district are the verge of being dismissed from work for alleged absenteeism from work. The implicated officials are being investigated by the district health office.  Ronald Kaye, Lwengo District Health Officer says that all health workers who will be found guilty of absenteeism will be dismissed and scrapped off the government pay roll.

He attributes the poor delivery of health services in the district to absenteeism by the health workers. Kaye claims that over 85 percent of the health workers in Lwengo are negligent of their duties. He says the most affected health units include Kyazanga Health center IV, Lwengo, and Kiwangala.

Kaye says that basing on their inspection only 2 of the 23 health workers at Kyazanga health center are active and always present at their work station. He says only 5 out of the 25 workers at deployed at Lwengo Health are always at the unit, while only 3 of 20 health workers at Kiwangala are always on duty.

Kaye says that the investigations were prompted by complaints his office received from patients about the poor delivery of health services in health units across the district. Samuel Kaijja, Lwengo Chief Administrative Officer says that they have summoned 50 medics to appear before the disciplinary committee to defend themselves for absenteeism. Kaijja says that the implicated officials risk losing their jobs once found guilty.
