50 Schools in Fort Portal for National Athletics Event

Athletes from more than 50 districts are in Kabarole district to take part in the National Secondary Schools Athletics Competition.

Athletes from more than 50 districts are in Kabarole district to take part in the National Secondary Schools Athletics Competition.

The national post-primary event is underway at St. Leos’ College Kyegobe in Fort Portal town.

The participants who include boys and girls will take part in different events like the 100, 200, 400 and 800 metres, cross country races, javelin, relays, high and long jump among others.

Mugagga Ali Kasule, the Chairman Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association, says the winner in the boys and girls category and the overall winner at the competitions will represent Uganda at the East African Secondary School Games next month in Bujumbura, Burundi.

The athletics competitions are the last sports events on the calendar after the Copa Coca Cola football tournament, and ball games which include Basketball, netball, volleyball and handball.

Justus Mugisha, the President of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA), says that three teams of football, athletics, basketball, netball, volleyball and handball will be selected to represent the country. Gulu district are the overall defending champions of the Athletics competitions, which they won last year in Arua district.
