Police Holds Six Suspected Iron Bar Hitmen

Julius Kabwisho, a resident of Kakiika division has welcomed the arrest of the suspects. According to Kabwisho, unidentified machete wielding thugs waylaid him last week and made off with his mobile phone and Shillings 100,000.

Six suspected iron bar hit-men are in Police custody in Mbarara district. The suspects include Brian Kakoza of Kijungu cell in Kakooba division and Nicolas Tumuhirwe and Sulait Muhanguzi, both residents of Ruti ward in Nyamitanga division in Mbarara municipality.

Others are Micheal Akampurira from Ntungamo district, Ismail Tinkasimire from Mulago in Kampala and Francis Kisiika from Karisizo in Rakai. Jaffar Magyezi, the Mbarara District Police Commander, says the suspects were picked up following numerous complaints from the residents.

He explains that the suspects were found with iron bars, machetes and some fetishes they have reportedly been using to protect them from arrest or being noticed by their victims.

According to Magyezi, they are hunting for the people who have been aiding the suspects in their activities in the district. He reveals that the suspects will be charged with aggravated robbery.

He however, asks Police to prosecute the suspects to the full extent of the law to act as a deterrent to others. The arrest of the suspects comes a few days after the murder of

Naume Bwengye, a prominent businesswoman in Mbarara municipality.

Bwengye was strangled to death in her shop in Andrew's cell in Kakiika division in Mbarara municipality on March 29th, 2017. However, none of those arrested has been linked to the murder of the businesswoman.
