More than 600 personnel have been recruited to join the Local Defence Unit-LDU in Busoga region. The two-day exercise which ended on Tuesday was conducted at Kyabazinga stadium in Bugembe town council, Jinja district.
However, the exercise was marred with accusations of extortion and favouritism by the recruitment team.
Josephat Mukama, a resident of Bugembe town council alleges that one of the officials approached him for 100,000 Shillings so as to be recruited without difficulties.
According to Mukama, when he refused, his academic documents were declared fake without any clear explanation.

Brig. Joseph Balikudembe, the head of recruitment team number denied all allegations arguing that the exercise has been free and fair under the watch of local leaders, DISOs, and RDCs from different areas.
Balikudembe says that the exercise has been marred with forgery and 15 candidates were disqualified due to lack of academic documents and authentic national identity cards per recruitment centre.
